Positive affirmations for wellbeing - What are affirmation jars


An affirmation can mean many things, for the purposes of affirmation jars, this is about: Inspiration, boost to confidence, a reminder for self-care, helping develop a positive mental attitude, and other ideas which offer you something to smile about.

The key thing about affirmations is that they offer something which is positive for you or the person you maybe give the jar to.

Affirmations and being indoors

With COVID 19 we are practising social distancing and only going out for the essential reasons which the Government has stated:

Stay at Home

  • Only go outside for food, health reasons or work (BUT only if you cannot work from home)
  • If you do need to go out for food, health reasons or work (BUT only if you cannot work from home) stay 2meters apart from other people
  • Wash your hands for 20sec as soon as you get home

The thing we all need to remember is, we can spread the virus even if we don't have symptoms. 

You may not notice you have the virus as you don't have symptoms, however, this doesn't mean you can't pass it to someone else. 

This is why social distancing is so important and something we can all do to help.

Being indoors for what may be a long time with only short journeys out for a walk or to the shops, maybe a challenge, for people who are being 'shielded' due to health challenges this means they cannot go out at all at this time. For more information on social distancing please visit.

This wee blog offers some ideas for an activity you can do alone or with others in your household where appropriate. 

With COVID 19 it's maybe a chance to reflect on what we appreciate and what we will look forward to doing when we can begin to go outside again. 

Or, it may be ideas of things to do when you are in the house during the COVID 19 outbreak which is fun and reduces boredom.

COPEScotland plans to do regular blogs on ideas to improve wellbeing when staying at home. This blog is around making affirmation jars, we shall share ideas for kindness affirmations, but they can be other themes which also have significance for you.
