Values and Philosophy

It is COPE Scotland's belief that it all starts with the mind of individuals.

Healthy minds are a reflection of healthy individuals and communities and good mental health is essential for well-being.

However, there are factors relating to inequality which can put some people at a disadvantage in relation to achieving good mental health which need to be addressed and new ways need to be found to connect with people in a way that has meaning for them.

A recent report by The Kings Fund highlighted, the proportion of people engaging in multiple risky behaviours (smoking, excessive drinking, physical activity and eating 5 fruit and veg) had fallen overall in the general population the greatest reductions were among those in higher socio-economic groups thus exacerbating health inequalities.
